Supporting children in emergencies when they need it most.
No one knows when the next disaster will strike. But we do know global crises are increasing exponentially. Climate change means disasters are more frequent and severe, and ongoing conflicts are displacing people in great numbers. The impact is felt deeply in the lives of children. This means we can’t wait until an emergency before we respond. We need to be ready. The Children’s Emergency fund means Save the Children can be on the ground within hours of a disaster. They can reach children in emergency situations quickly with the essentials they need to survive - and the support they need to recover.
Our impact: $30 can save a child’s life in an emergency
Providing shelter to a woman escaping domestic violent.
During the COVID-19 crisis, Women's Community Shelters experienced a 25% increase in inquiries for safe
accommodation for women and children who were homeless or escaping domestic violence. Existing services were already at full capacity, with more than 50% of women seeking shelter turned away due to a lack of beds.
Across Australia, around 56,00 women are homeless each night, many with young children. Now, there are many more. Women unable to access shelters are left vulnerable, disconnected from community and support networks. Women’s Community Shelters is dedicated to providing women and children with a safe place to stay and an opportunity to rebuild their lives.
Our impact: $50 provides a hot meal and a safe, comfortable place to stay for one night.
Supporting a child to recovery through providing specialised counseling for abuse.
Every night in Australia 46,00 children can’t sleep in their own beds because they are at risk of being abused or neglected. In one-on-one therapeutic counseling, children are supported to understand the abuse was not their fault and they are worthy of love. Holding children in strong relationships, they come to trust their connection with caring people as a source of nurturing and comfort, not hurt and betrayal.
The Australian Childhood Foundation is a leading organisation, supporting children to recover from the trauma of abuse, neglect and family violence. The Foundation provides specialist support to help children heal and feel safe, while educating and empowering communities to safeguard children from abuse.
Our Impact: $50 helps provide one on-one specialised therapeutic counselling for a child who has experienced family violence.
We are passionate about raising the next generation and empowering them to build a better world. We recognise that the topic of child homelessness can also be sad and confronting for little ones.
